SWIFT headquarters is located in La Hulpe, Belgium. To overcome these difficulties, the European Committee for Banking Standards (ECBS) developed the IBAN which was later adopted as an international standard under ISO 13616:1997. If it is a constant for the country concerned, this will be stated in the Comments column. This allows the payment to be directed to a specific office. Banks in Australia and New Zealand have not adopted IBAN, and tend to use Bank State Branch codes for domestic transfers and SWIFT for international.
